Not all learning happens in the classroom. Whether you are looking to expand on your next great idea with the Start Something LAS Academy or study abroad through the many different locations around the world, there are many different ways you can add to your college experience. Here are just a few!

    BPMI Learning Community

A learning community enhances your undergraduate experience by providing you with a dynamic, focused community of students, staff, and faculty so you can learn and grow together. Sign up will take place during Orientation. Please ask your advisor for details. Our Learning Community allows students to meet others in their cohort from day one. The BPMI Learning Community orients students to the major, the endless possibilities in combining science and art on campus, research opportunities, and career options in the field of scientific illustration and visualization.

  • bpmi-club

    BPMI Club

The BPMI Club provides an environment in which students, especially those affiliated with the Scientific Illustration and Visualization major, can learn and nurture skills in art and science in order to be knowledgeable and successful in their studies at ISU and future careers.

Professional Day

Professional Day is a feature event for our program where every student, staff, and faculty is in attendance at the end of each semester for a program-wide artwork critique, internship poster presentations, fun competitions, and our annual awards. Additionally, graduating seniors share their final portfolios, favorite memories, and their future plans as their accomplishments are celebrated by all. Students who have completed an internship prior to Professional Day are required to present a brief summary and artwork produced for the internship in poster presentations. Artwork often includes illustrations, models, displays, animations, interactive prototypes, instructional design, and other forms of science communication. Clients, friends, and family are invited and provide valuable feedback. Professional Day is a great way for students to develop career-readiness skills, see a range of media in published scientific visualization works, and test out their careers interests. Students appreciate how what is learned in the classroom can be applied to hands-on professional experiences in the field.
